    One of four tile pieces created in collaboration between London-based designer Max Lamb and TAJIMI CUSTOM TILES.
    TAJIMI CUSTOM TILES showcases the charm of tiles from a new perspective, while utilizing the tradition and craftsmanship of Tajimi tiles. The pieces, shaped by slipcasting, bring out the beautiful natural color of the clay. This work reflects Lamb's extensive knowledge of materials and experimental approach, which are characteristic of a designer who often creates products with his own hands. It can be used as an art object or as a tray for small items on a desk or at the entrance.

    The area around Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture, where ceramics culture began about 1300 years ago, has fertile soil containing high-quality clay minerals. The characteristics of Tajimi tiles are not only their overwhelming production capacity, but also the fact that each manufacturer uses various forms and properties, from materials and molding to glazes. Furthermore, it is characterized by the survival of traditional Japanese firing techniques, diverse glaze expressions, and the equipment and production methods that support them.
    Tile manufacturing, which began in the early 20th century, is now a leading industry in Gifu Prefecture, with the highest overall production volume in Japan. As for mosaic tiles, 90% of domestic production is manufactured in the Tajimi region.
