Saho Terao's new album "Shoe Shine," her first in approximately two years. It will be released on CD, analog, and subscription, featuring 10 tracks including the first pre-release single "Aino Arika" and the second pre-release single "Shoe Shine."

Starting with the lyrics "My friends are dead too" and a lighthearted, jazzy trumpet fanfare, Saho Terao's new album "Shoe Shine" arrives after approximately two years. Ten tracks, including the first pre-release single "Aino Arika" and the second pre-release single "Shoe Shine," which is the opening track of the album, will be released on CD, analog, and subscription in the autumn of 2024.

Approximately one year has passed since we returned to normal life after the three-year COVID-19 pandemic. Under the name of social distancing, each individual went through an unprecedented difficult time, and while daily life seems to have finally recovered, looking outwards, wars and disasters continue unabated, and it often feels as if we are living in a parallel world entirely different from before the pandemic.

At such times, I believe what's important is to confirm our current position through casual conversations with those close to us. In this work, the dialogue between Saho Terao and musicians who support Japanese music, such as Mahito the People (E. Guitar), Takashi Ueno of Tenniscoats (Sax), Santa Takahashi (Trumpet), Masanori Utashima (Veena), Tatsuro Kondo (Harmonica), Masafumi Sekiguchi (Cello), and Yuka Yoshino (Harp), accelerates through shared sorrow, fierce expressions of anger, and explosive joy, culminating in music.

In the pre-release single "Aino Arika," a unique and original groove, while maintaining a slow tempo, is woven by Reizaburo Adachi (Drums) and Wataru Iga (Bass), who are also members of "Fuyu ni Wakarete," along with Saho Terao's piano and organ. Layered on top is Terao's graceful vocal, creating a song where the contemporary form of love that everyone seeks seems to reveal itself in unexpected moments while listening... It has become a straightforward yet elegant song that could only resonate in 2024.

The despair within people who bravely live their daily lives, swayed by the times, as exemplified by "Shoe Shine" and "Konbanwa Otsukisan" (lyrics and music by Ryo Kagawa), can be transformed into hope as long as we live. I believe that feeling exists within us who live in the modern age. Surely, such "casual conversations" with Saho Terao will be extended across Japan and throughout East Asia in the form of a tour after the album's release. Shall we embark on a journey together to find where love resides? Until then, I look forward to seeing you through the music, at live performances, and everywhere else.
