British violinist and producer Tom Connolly's Fohn project has released its debut album via ODDA Recordings.

This work explores his essential connection to Connemara, Ireland, his father's birthplace. Inspired by island life, maritime lore, and traditional music, it blends the Irish fiddle with ambient electronics and field recordings to create beautiful and serene ambient soundscapes that navigate the space between documentation and fantasy, reflecting Connolly's relationship with the land.

"'Seanteach' delves into the essence of my relationship with Ireland, and particularly with Connemara, where my father's family originates," explains Connolly, discussing the long-form work that fuses new compositions for traditional Irish fiddle with ambient electronics and evocative field recordings.

"The work explores how much of a mythical space the island of Inishbofin was for me, growing up in the UK."

Each track on the album reflects an aspect of his relationship with island life, where physical features and myth intersect. For example, "Boreen" is named after the colloquial term for a rural lane sometimes shared with otherworldly neighbors. "Aisling at Sea" depicts the primal and unstoppable force of water, while the folklore of "Immram" echoes tales passed down through generations about bravery and supernatural achievements on the ocean.

"The compositions are often at the frayed edges of memory, inherited from my own experiences, family lore, or the stories I've encountered. I wanted to create compositions that tread the space between documentation and fantasy, reflecting my relationship with this place."
