LP Record: Kiasmos "∞" (Clear Vinyl version)
The 2014 masterpiece "Kiasmos" redefined minimal techno with its orchestral splendor and nimble production. From 2020 to 2021, they spent a month at Olof Arnolds' studio in Bali to create new electronic music. They sampled traditional Balinese percussion such as gamelan and incorporated field recordings of natural environments recorded by Janus.
Their instrumental music, expressing complex emotions and evocative visuals, leverages Olof Arnolds' experience as a producer, cultivated through his work as a Grammy-nominated composer and renowned soundtrack artist for film and television. They gradually shift from a four-beat to a frenetic broken beat, varying the BPM, and intentionally impose limitations on the sound without employing new ideas, creating chord progressions and beats that aim to be more memorable for the listener.
This work, which transitions from a whispering, quiet atmosphere to explosive dance beats, is sure to stir the listener's emotions.
Kiasmos
An electronic unit formed in 2007 by Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen, who was active in the electropop band Bloodgroup. In 2009, they released a split 12-inch "65/Milo" with Rival Consoles, and in 2012, a 12-inch "Thrown EP" featuring two new tracks and remixes by FaltyDL and 65daysofstatic. In 2013, two tracks under the name Kiasmos were included on the compilation album "Two Songs For Dance + Stare + Thrown EP" to commemorate Ólafur Arnalds' visit to Japan. They released their debut album "Kiasmos" in 2014. After that, they performed at many festivals around the world. In 2015, they released the "Swept EP" which added remixes to three new tracks, and in 2017, they released "Blurred" which included four new tracks + two remixes (featuring Bonobo and Stimming). In 2018, Janus visited Japan as Kiasmos DJ Set at Taicoclub. In 2019, they provided a remix for Tom Walker's "Now You're Gone" featuring Zara Larsson. In March 2024, they released "Flown" with three tracks preceding the album, and on July 5, they released their first full-length album in 10 years, "Two," from Erased Tapes.
