Book: THREADING SPACE by Fred Sandback
The artist's practice was unique in its consistent use of yarn and rods. This book brings together newly commissioned essays and historically significant texts to examine a sculptural practice that is thoroughly minimalist yet spatially expansive.
Designed by Belgian graphic designer Filiep Tacq to reflect the delicacy and precision inherent in the artist's work, and edited by Lilian Tone, Curator at The Museum of Modern Art, New York. In addition to texts by Nuria Enguita, Director of IVAM / Institut Valencià d'Art Modern, Portuguese curator Delfim Sardo, Swiss architectural historian Philip Ursprung, American curator Joan Simon, and the artist himself, previously unpublished materials are also included.
Traversing theoretical considerations, personal recollections, and historical contextualization, the book explores the artist's distinctive method of delineating space itself using acrylic yarn. His practice, which evokes architecture while calling forth presence through absence, is elucidated.
Portuguese and English bilingual.
