This book is a product of encounters. At the Chair of Architecture and Urban Transformation at ETH Zurich, known as Newrope, a space is created where faculty, students, and collaborators intersect, and practices for envisioning the world unfold. It offers participants and observers an opportunity to imagine new forms of collaboration. The recognition that new forms of critical design education are urgently needed underpins the immediacy of this project. By documenting the generative process of Newrope's educational experiments, this book serves as a guide, anticipating future experiments that will unfold beyond this space. In this sense, this book is not a guide to collaboration, but rather is intended to be a part of those very relationships.

Just as portability promotes functionality, this book is designed as an everyday working companion to be kept close at hand, carried around, and frequently referenced. It is structured around four verbs: "to project," "to experience," "to sequence," and "to activate." First, it serves as an "Action," providing a contextual overview of established professional practices in the fields of architecture and urban transformation. Second, it is presented as a "Primer," stimulating thought to reproduce these practices in their embryonic form. The latter section develops reflections on "collectivity," which Newrope continues to explore as a methodology for addressing contemporary complexities.

This exploration, unfolding within Newrope's "Design in Dialogue Lab," is an attempt to establish new forms of communication and engagement through tangible elements such as props and performative mock-ups. Viewing this book not only as a record of these collaborative rehearsals but also as a companion for the practices yet to emerge reveals its self-contained nature. In other words, it functions as a "prop" that quietly encourages co-creation.
