This is an anthology of works by Shiro Kuramata, a Japanese designer who represents post-war Japan. This definitive book comprehensively introduces the works created throughout the life of the internationally acclaimed author. This book is a new edition of the same work published by "PHAIDON" in 2013, and includes a new foreword by Deyan Sudjic, an architectural historian who is the author of this book.

As the author's first monograph, this book has been widely acclaimed around the world since its publication. This collection of works, which introduces all of the author's works that have wonderfully captivated people's hearts and established a solid originality, is not only rich in content, but also features a two-volume set housed in a multi-colored acrylic slipcase in the same beautiful form as the first edition.

After studying at Kuwasawa Design School, the author joined San-Ai in 1957. After being involved in various designs such as store layouts, fixtures, graphic design, interiors, offices, and commercial spaces, he established Kuramata Design Office in 1965. In addition to interior design for "Issey Miyake" stores, he collaborated with avant-garde artist Jiro Takamatsu and graphic designer Tadanori Yokoo, and also created original furniture. At the invitation of Ettore Sottsass, a central figure in the design group "Memphis Group" and a close friend of the author, he joined the group in 1981, expanding his activities internationally.

This book covers all 600 or more of the author's works, and includes a list of works in addition to each illustration. From the representative work "Miss Blanche" made of artificial flowers and resin, to "umbrella stand F.1.86" which incorporates a walking stick into the design, and the expanded metal mesh armchair "How High the Moon" named after a famous jazz standard, designers and enthusiasts who love the author will be surprised by its breadth and depth.

The book's design was handled by "(Studio) Jonathan Hares", and it received a "Wood Pencil" at the "D&AD Awards 2014", an internationally authoritative award in the design and advertising fields.
