A collection of works by German artist Josef Albers. While Albers is known as one of the most important artists and educators of the 20th century, his poetic works may still be unfamiliar to many.

The original edition of this book was published in 500 copies in 1958, followed by a second edition in 1961. The format and design of the book were created through close collaboration between Albers and American graphic designer, artist, and publisher Norman Ives. Ives, now a renowned legendary graphic designer, was also a student of Albers. At the time, George Heard Hamilton, an American art historian and curator who taught art history at Yale University, published it through his own publishing house, The Readymade Press.

This fourth edition is a particularly special volume. While it faithfully reproduces the unique design of the first edition with its silkscreen-printed cover and translucent overlay, its more significant feature is the updated content from previous editions. Poems originally written in German or English have been newly translated into French, and the layout has been designed to align with the spirit in which the drawings were created. Additionally, the book includes previously unpublished poems by Albers and features an essay by American poet Andrew Seguin. This volume treats the book as a unique literary and artistic work within Albers' diverse oeuvre and provides a commentary on its context.
