In rural France, Pollet Pinet Architectes breathe new life into forgotten buildings, reviving vernacular traditions by incorporating local crafts and subtle innovations. Nata Janberidze, who founded Rooms Studio, the first female-run interior design studio in Tbilisi, Georgia, has designed her own apartment in the city, powerfully intertwining history, culture, and personal expression. In New York, gallerist Suzanne Demisch and collector Jeffrey Graetsch embrace the passage of time without concealment, demonstrating how to live within such spaces. Artist Bosco Sodi's home and studio in Mexico embody the raw synergy between architecture and art, while artist and food visionary Laila Gohar's loft in New York is an interior space that merges creativity, design, and storytelling. All the spaces featured in this issue exemplify the home as a "merged place," another theme of this issue. It is a fusion of old and new, material and metaphorical, private and collective, shaping who we are.
As with previous issues, this issue travels the world, showcasing creative voices on its pages. A Tokyo jeweler plays with scale and form, and a Bali-based Singaporean artist creates monumental furniture from ancient stones. The daughter of Tapio Wirkkala, a leader in Finnish industrial design, recalls summers in remote Lapland, and a Japanese architect crafts unique stories derived from place and material in their work. And Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece, the Hollyhock House in Los Angeles, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is also a mythical mashup that defined regional modernism.
In "CASE STUDY," Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), led by architect Bjarke Ingels, photographs their new exposed-concrete headquarters in Copenhagen, showcasing a combination of objects shaped from raw, robust natural materials, resonating with the surrounding structures and their beauty.
