Boucherouite rugs are said to have originated when Moroccan women, suffering from a wool shortage during the World Wars, began weaving rugs by tearing strips of available fabric.
Each piece is hand-knitted.

On the surface, the ends of the torn fabric strips are left short, and if you lift the fabric, you can see the knots.
