A design duo comprised of a Finn and a Korean, COMPANY, designed this series of ceramic flower vases celebrating Finnish seasonal events. The "Midsummer Magic Vase" is based on a folktale where, on Midsummer's Eve in June, a girl collects seven wild flowers and places them under her pillow to dream of her future husband. This vase brings the image of a dreaming Finnish girl with her seven wild flowers into your room. This vase also has a perforated plate at the bottom for arranging wildflowers. Each one is handmade at a ceramic factory in Portugal, with which Artek collaborates.

In their bright Helsinki studio, filled with natural light, Aamu and Johan draw, paint, sew fabric, and knead clay to create molds. Sometimes, with their dog, Jaya, they walk silently along the nearby coast, lost in thought. In such moments, their creative process quietly and secretly unfolds. "When your chattering stops," Aamu and Johan say, "that's when you're absorbing something at an incredible speed." The products, imbued with a beauty and cuteness that only they can create, are born this way.

Their dreams carry them far beyond Helsinki. Aamu and Johan have found a new purpose for their unique world travels, gathering further inspiration along the way. From Estonia to Russia, America, Korea, and Japan, they undertake "Secret Projects," visiting factories and artisans that produce traditional products in each region, and creating new products with their skills and expertise. They embody the secrets that have been hidden and alive in local history and culture, translating them into products. "When I travel, I sometimes fall in love with the country, the city, nature, and the things of that country. And of course, with the people."

Aamu and Johan's journey is like a treasure hunt. They continue the process of unraveling and reinterpreting new discoveries. Even in situations where they don't know what they'll find next, their talent and skill allow them to easily embody their thoughts and discoveries. The countries they visit point to where they should go next.

However, their home remains Helsinki. And it is from this place that the "FIN/JPN Friendship Collection" by COMPANY and Artek was born. What gifts did Finnish representatives present to Japan in 1919, 100 years ago, when Finland and Japan established diplomatic relations? Inspired by this question, Aamu and Johan conceived the products to be included in the FIN/JPN Friendship Collection.

"Finland is a country blessed with rich nature, wonderful cityscapes and architecture, and excellent design. However, there aren't actually many customs that carry on the ancient memories of ancestors or folk crafts that convey them. Such traditional rituals are quietly performed deep in the forest or by the lake, so travelers rarely get to see them," say Aamu and Johan. After deep consideration, they decided to create a series of ceramic small objects. While focusing on Finnish culture and folktales passed down for 100 years, this series reflects the shared tradition of nature worship in Japan and Finland, combining the intrigue of an object with functionality.
