Artek and the Italian design studio Formafantasma developed a new timber selection standard, "Wild Birch – As Nature Intended," advocating for the careful and waste-free use of wood in its most natural state, taking into account the impact of modern climate change and industrialization on Finnish forests and timber. As its name, which means "wild" or "as nature intended" in Finnish, suggests, the "Stool 60 Wild Birch" uses birch wood that showcases the unique characteristics of nature, based on the new timber selection standard. Launched to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the "Stool 60" in 2023, the Stool 60 Wild Birch is the first product to emerge from the shared concerns, values, and continuous collaboration between Artek and Formafantasma, and it has become a new standard.
