The Stool 60 is a limited-edition series born from the collaboration between Artek and Marimekko, as one of Artek's 90th-anniversary products.
It can be used in various situations in daily life, sometimes as a small table or to place a flower vase. It is stackable.
Marimekko designer Maija Isola's iconic patterns beautifully blend into Alvar Aalto's furniture.
The Kivet (stone) pattern design is said to be inspired by large, rough stones Maija Isola picked up from the grounds of her studio and home. Although it was created in 1956 for the "Arkkitehti (Architectural)" print collection, Marimekko's bright and vibrant essence adds color to the simple and versatile stool design, bringing a playful touch to the space.
The "Stool 60 Kivet" is expressed using the marquetry technique, where cut wood pieces are inlaid into other sections of the stool's veneer seat. Combining different wood grains creates a sparkling contrast, resulting in an innovative collaboration of light, pattern, and the fusion and interaction of wood.
The "Artek + Marimekko" series realizes the fusion of Marimekko's print-making art and Artek's woodworking technology. Through an essential and innovative form of collaboration that utilizes the technique of cutting surface veneer into pattern shapes and inlaying them into corresponding sections of other pieces, Maija Isola's vivid print designs are transformed into contrasting, tasteful wood grains and wood bases. The "Artek + Marimekko" series celebrates the commonalities of the two Finnish brands: architecture, nature, and human-centered pragmatism. Reflecting both companies' commitment to environmental protection, the manufacturing process, which applies the woodworking technique of inlaying cut sections into other parts, is designed to minimize wood waste. All products are made from responsibly sourced Finnish birch wood at Artek's factory near Turku in southwestern Finland.
*Artek actively engages in environmental protection initiatives and uses materials with minor scratches and knots that do not affect usability, rather than discarding them. Therefore, there may be some noticeable scratches or knots on the seat, top plate, or legs. Please understand that there will be no issues with use.
