STOOL 60 Sireeni
The Stool 60 is a limited edition series born from the collaboration between Artek and Marimekko, as one of the anniversary products celebrating Artek's 90th year.
It can be used in various situations in daily life, sometimes as a small table, or to place a flower vase. It is stackable.
The iconic pattern designed by Marimekko designer Maija Isola blends beautifully with Alvar Aalto's furniture.
Seireeni (Siren) was designed by Maija Isola in 1964. It is a pattern inspired by the movement of the sea during her travels in Greece. Named after the mythical Sirens, this pattern also evokes the enchanting songs that lured sailors into dangerous waters. The "Stool 60 Seireeni" expresses its pattern on the veneer of its seat using the technique of marquetry, where cut pieces of wood are inlaid into other sections.
The "Artek + Marimekko" series achieves a fusion of Marimekko's art of printmaking and Artek's woodworking technology. Through an essential and innovative collaboration that uses a technique of cutting the surface veneer into the shape of a pattern and inlaying it into corresponding parts of another piece, Maija Isola's vivid print designs are transformed into a rich contrast of wood grain and wood base. The "Artek + Marimekko" series celebrates the commonalities between the two Finnish brands: architecture, nature, and human-centered pragmatism. Reflecting both companies' commitment to environmental protection, the manufacturing process, which applies woodworking techniques to inlay cut sections into other parts, is designed to minimize wood waste. All products are made from responsibly sourced Finnish birch wood at Artek's factory near Turku, Southwest Finland.
*Artek is actively engaged in environmental protection initiatives, utilizing materials with minor scratches and knots that do not compromise their functionality, rather than discarding them. Consequently, there may be some noticeable scratches or knots on the seat, top, or legs. Please be aware that these will not affect the product's use.
