VASE is a work by Max Lamb and part of the TOKONOMA series.
This striking piece, with its primitive form, is designed based on the designer's contemplation of form: "Adding volume to the bottom of an elongated cylinder creates a stable shape." Using the free-blowing technique of glassblowing, each piece has individual differences in shape, and the wavering, fluctuating texture results in a beautiful finish. As the name VASE suggests, it can be used as a single-stem vase, but it also offers the pleasure of being displayed as an object.

TOKONOMA is a collection launched in 2015 by London-based designer Max Lamb.
Inspired by the concept of "tokonoma" (alcove), it is a collection consisting of different materials and functions based on the Japanese style of arrangement. Individual elements such as material, size, color, texture, and weight interact and enhance each other. Consciously, and sometimes unconsciously, they blend in, and as the four pieces come together in daily life, they become everyday objects that provide both practicality and beauty.

    MAX LAMB
Born in 1980. Having spent his childhood in Cornwall, a rural town on the west coast of the UK, he developed a love for nature and a spirit for making things, leading him to explore materials using both traditional and unconventional methods. Today, he continues to rethink the functions of materials while utilizing their inherent qualities, striving to create a positive relationship between products, manufacturers, and users through simple yet effective designs for communication. After graduating from Northumbria University, he earned a master's degree from the Royal College of Art (RCA) in 2006. While leading lectures and workshops, he is based in London and is engaged in creating new designs by applying traditional material concepts and personally participating in the processes.
