Tetsuhiro Iwata is a ceramic artist based in Tokyo.
He creates his pieces using an artificial semi-porcelain clay, a mixture of porcelain clay and earthenware, covered with a glossy clear glaze formulated not to craze. His works feature a grayish-white color and a rugged, industrial aesthetic, yet they never feel cold due to the subtle traces of human handiwork, a hallmark of analog techniques that remain within them.

The Kyuryo Bowl (Hill Bowl) is inspired by the undulating ridges of the sand dunes in Tottori Prefecture, Iwata's hometown. Its organic curves create soft interplay of light and shadow. With a depth that is neither too deep nor too shallow, this highly versatile vessel will enhance any table setting, whether for Japanese, Western, or Chinese cuisine, desserts, or sweets.
