This ataW exclusive soap dish is made by Tetsuhiro Iwata, a ceramic artist based in Tokyo.
Its form, which appears as if the inside has been scooped out of a mold, makes a statement not only as a soap dish but also when used for snacks, small side dishes, or as a trinket tray for accessories.
It is made from artificial semi-porcelain, a blend of porcelain clay and earthenware clay, and finished with a glossy clear glaze that doesn't craze. Despite its grayish-white color and industrial, rugged appearance, the traces of handmade craftsmanship, unique to analog methods, give it a surprisingly warm feel.
Tetsuhiro Iwata
A ceramic artist based in Tokyo, born in Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture in 1981. After graduating from Kyoto Seika University's Faculty of Arts, Architecture Course in 2004, he worked at an interior shop. In 2014, he entered the Tochigi Prefectural Ceramics Technology Center. From 2016, he studied under Kan Ito in Okayama Prefecture. In 2019, he opened his kiln in Tokyo.

・In addition to wheel-forming, the casting method is also used, so injection marks and mold marks may be visible on the bottom or sides of the vessel. Furthermore, some pieces may have cracks, small chips, glaze drips, or glaze imperfections that occur during the production process. These are intentionally left as characteristics of Mr. Iwata's work, so please enjoy them as part of each piece's individuality.
