Yohei Nakazato has an unusual career history: after majoring in industrial design at a British university, he worked for a general company, and then taught himself lacquerware production starting in 2012. He handles all processes himself, from woodworking to undercoating and finishing. He uses rare, domestically produced Nagano lacquer for the finish, which is characterized by an elegant luster and smooth texture. The lacquerware is beautiful, balancing exquisite design with the traces of his handiwork from hand carving. He is currently based in Aoki Village, Nagano Prefecture.
