    This butter knife is the result of a collaboration between Kathleen Reilly, a Scottish artist and metalworker, and skilled artisans from Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture, a city with over 400 years of metalworking history.
    The design, influenced by traditional Japanese table settings and arrangements, features a distinctive folded handle that catches on the rim of a dish when resting, preventing it from slipping off and soiling the tabletop.
    The board is made from domestically sourced wood not commonly used in furniture making.

    Kathleen Reilly | Artist
    A Scottish artist and metalworker. After studying metalwork and jewelry at the Glasgow School of Art, she graduated from the Royal College of Art in the UK with a postgraduate degree. In 2018, she visited the exhibition "Tsubame-Sanjo - Evolution and Differentiation of Metal" held at Japan House London, where she first witnessed the high level of craftsmanship in Tsubame-Sanjo. Subsequently, in 2019, she came to Japan as a Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation scholar and spent two years training under artisans in Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture. In 2022, "Oku" won the Homeware Design category of the Dezeen Awards.
