    2016/ is a project celebrating the 400th anniversary of Arita ware, a collaboration between Arita, Saga Prefecture, and the Netherlands. New Arita ware was born from 16 designers and 16 kilns and trading companies active both in Japan and abroad.

    This simple tableware is stackable and designed to be a standard for everyday use worldwide. Inspired by the glaze phenomena that inevitably occur during porcelain manufacturing, designer Teruhiro Yanagihara proposed a design where the beauty of perfection and imperfection coexist. Based on the ancient Japanese belief that beauty resides in imperfection, he embraced glaze irregularities, which Arita had previously considered failures, and created tableware with distinctive expressions.
