    To commemorate the 400th anniversary of Arita ware, the "2016/" project was launched, a collaboration between Arita, Saga Prefecture, and the Netherlands. This project brought together 16 designers and 16 kilns and trading companies, who are active both in Japan and internationally, to create new Arita ware.

    This simple tableware is stackable and designed to be a standard everyday item for homes around the world. Designer Teruhiro Yanagihara drew inspiration from the natural phenomena of glazes that inevitably occur during the porcelain manufacturing process, proposing a design where perfect and imperfect beauty coexist. Based on the traditional Japanese belief that beauty resides in imperfection, he embraced glaze inconsistencies—previously considered flaws in Arita—and created tableware with distinctive and expressive surfaces.
