    "2016/" is a project commemorating the 400th anniversary of Arita ware, a collaboration between Arita, Saga Prefecture, and the Netherlands. New Arita ware was created by 16 pairs of designers active both in Japan and internationally, and 16 kilns and trading companies.

    This simple tableware is stackable and a standard, everyday tableware that can be used all over the world. Designer Teruhiro Yanagihara was inspired by a phenomenon of glazes that always occurs during the porcelain manufacturing process, and proposed a design in which the beauty of perfection and imperfection coexist. Based on the ancient Japanese philosophy that beauty resides in imperfect things, he affirmed the unevenness of glazes, which had previously been considered failures in Arita, and created tableware with characteristic expressions.
