    "2016/" is a project commemorating the 400th anniversary of Arita ware, a collaboration between Arita, Saga Prefecture, and the Netherlands. It is a new Arita ware created by 16 groups of designers and 16 kilns and trading companies active both in Japan and overseas.

    This Arita ware for everyday use, designed by Shigeki Fujishiro, combines sophisticated forms with an elegant, subdued luster. A new glossy type has been added to the classic Shigeki Fujishiro Collection Mug.

    Designer Shigeki Fujishiro explored the 400-year history of Arita ware and discovered the dominance of the color red. In Arita, overglaze decoration is called "Aka-e" (red painting) and has long been used as a special color. He focused on this red and developed designs centered around this color. The straight-lined shapes emphasize functionality, making it a series of everyday tools that harmonize with both Eastern and Western dining tables.
