    The "2016/" project is a collaboration between Arita, Saga Prefecture, and the Netherlands, commemorating the 400th anniversary of Arita ware. Through this project, 16 designers active in Japan and abroad and 16 kilns and trading companies created new Arita ware.

    Leon Ransmeier, based in New York, researched Japanese cultural backgrounds and discovered the existence of "tactile beauty." Focusing on the fact that Japanese ceramics possess shapes and textures that allow one to feel more beauty by holding them, he adopted distinctive designs inspired by tools with shapes that invite one to pick them up. The handles of coffee pots, teapots, vases, and cups are given a swell through pressure molding, creating a shape that fits comfortably in the hand.
