    This is "2016/", a project launched in collaboration with Arita, Saga Prefecture and the Netherlands, commemorating the 400th anniversary of Arita ware. New Arita ware was created by 16 groups of designers active both in Japan and overseas, 16 pottery kilns, and trading companies.

    Leon Ransmeier, based in New York, discovered the existence of "tactile beauty" while researching the cultural background of Japan. He focused on the fact that Japanese vessels have shapes and textures that allow one to feel more beauty when held in the hand, and adopted characteristic designs inspired by tools with shapes that make one want to pick them up. The handles of coffee pots, teapots, vases, and cups are swelled by pressure molding to fit comfortably in the hand.
