    "2016/" is a project commemorating the 400th anniversary of Arita ware, a collaboration between Saga Prefecture's Arita and the Netherlands. New Arita ware was created by 16 groups of designers active in Japan and overseas, and 16 kilns and trading companies.

    Dutch designer Kirstie van Noort began her design process by researching materials. She visited quarries and learned that the ceramic stone used in Arita is extremely special, containing almost no impurities, and that all raw materials with many impurities are discarded. She then focused on the ceramic stone with many impurities that is usually discarded and developed a ceramic clay with beautiful colors produced by nature. The two series in the collection are composed of simple shapes to emphasize their unique colors and textures.
