    "TRACE" is a mirror based on the traditional, basic Japanese "O-bon" (tray). By setting the mirror surface slightly inward from the edge, the connection from the edge to the base plate is visible, evoking the original form of the O-bon. We have incorporated elements of lacquerware into a form that easily fits into modern life.
    This is a lacquerware version with a traditional "tame-nuri" finish. Tame-nuri involves applying vermillion to the base and then coating it with lacquer, resulting in a deep color with a subtle hint of the vermillion base showing through. Furthermore, as the transparency of the lacquer increases over time, the vermillion base will become more visible, and the color will change.

    Formed in 2008 by Kenji Ito and Takahiro Umino, both graduates of Kuwasawa Design School. They create objects that blend into daily life by firmly grasping the ambiguous, elusive atmosphere behind things, without losing their ambiguity.
