    "TRACE" is a mirror based on the traditional, basic Japanese "O-bon" tray. By setting the mirror surface slightly inward from the edge, the connection from the edge to the base plate is visible, evoking the original form of the O-bon. We have adapted elements of lacquerware into a form that can be easily incorporated into modern life.

    This is a lacquered version with traditional Tame-nuri (amber-lacquer) finish. In Tame-nuri, vermillion is applied as a base coat, and then lacquer is applied over it to finish, resulting in a deep color with a subtle hint of the underlying vermillion showing through. Furthermore, as the transparency of the lacquer increases over time, the vermillion base coat becomes more visible, and the color changes over time.

    Formed in 2008 by Kenji Ito and Takahiro Umino. Both are graduates of Kuwasawa Design School. They create objects that blend into daily life, capturing the ambiguous atmosphere behind things that cannot be clearly grasped, while maintaining that ambiguity.

    * This is a lacquered version with traditional Tame-nuri finish.
    * Only the Koban shape can be hung in two ways: vertically and horizontally.
