Fabiano do Nascimento is a Brazilian guitarist currently based in Los Angeles, whose recent collaborations and performances with Sam Gendel have garnered significant attention. Daniel Santiago is considered one of Brazil's foremost guitarists in the contemporary jazz scene, known for releases on Kurt Rosenwinkel's label, Heartcore. Now, an collaborative album by these two artists, who continue their creative activities with an experimental spirit that transcends borders and genres while internalizing the roots of Brazilian music, is here.
This work, by two long-time friends and collaborators, was recorded in Daniel's hometown of Brasília. Unlike their collaboration on Fabiano's 2023 work "Das Nuvens," this album showcases a magical interplay of diverse performance expressions and timbres, backed by the rich technique and background of both as guitarists.
As Fabiano's guitar, freely manipulating melodic harmonics and irregular meters, and Daniel's guitar, presenting lyrical arpeggios and advanced harmonies, organically intertwine, guest Jennifer Souza's vocals float dreamily, and Sakura Okamura's sho enters like a ray of light. The music is imbued with delicate spatial processing and effects throughout, creating a meditative and ambient atmosphere with a sense of tranquility, yet also carrying a subtle indigenous warmth. It is full of stimuli that reach deep into the listener's sensibilities.
