Book: A MAGAZINE CURATED BY CECILIE BAHNSEN
It is particularly moving that the magazine opens with a conversation between Carla Sozzani, editor, gallerist, and entrepreneur, and Sara Sozzani Maino, creative director and founder of "VOGUE TALENT" to support young talent, discussing the necessity of nurturing creativity and the evolving connection between mother and daughter. Cecilie Bahnsen herself appears in the magazine with her young son, and photographer fumiko imano captures their excitement for a trip to Tokyo, a familiar city for her and a first for her son.
A story by the non-profit independent music platform "Brodie Sessions" explores how music connects families and communities, beginning with a dialogue between a mother and daughter team who support Copenhagen's concert spaces and music platform, and continuing with conversations with musicians active in the city's scene, including "Ydegirl," "CTM (Cæcilie Trier)," and Clarissa Connelly.
Freja Beha Erichsen, described as a legendary model, also turns the camera on herself and her surroundings, creating a precious photo diary that introspectively depicts her world beyond the lens.
Two photo essays particularly catch our eye, visually performing a meditative role on Cecilie Bahnsen's core themes. The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark explores light, while at the restaurant Noma, the passage of time is interpreted through the seasonal changes and flowers of its summer garden.
Photographer Pia Riverola travels to the high Himalayas to capture unique "everyday couture" specially created in Cecilie Bahnsen's studio for this issue, deconstructing and reconstructing archives of "The North Face." This vast natural landscape will contrast with the cinematic, bustling depictions of urban life captured by photographer Takashi Homma.
Cecilie Bahnsen and art historian and curator Katy Hessel engage in a thoughtful dialogue, exploring feminine creativity and the inherent power of its curation. Gallerist Jacqueline Sullivan presents descriptions of art director and photographer Brian Kanagaki's beloved selection of objects transformed into still-life compositions.
What emerges throughout this issue are words that describe shared experiences through moments spent with parents and children, sisters, loved ones, and friends. It unfolds as a meditation and contemplation on the beauty that everyday life brings, the unseen, the threads that connect generations, and the experiences from boyhood and childhood development that continue to shape creativity even in this very moment.
The cover features model Serena Motola.
