The inaugural issue of an annual magazine themed around Asia. Set against the vast and diverse land of Asia, it multi-dimensionally reflects images of Asia by intertwining the perspectives of the people living there with the gaze of travelers and immigrants. For this inaugural issue, 10 photographers active around the world participated. Martin Parr humorously captures the blend of daily life and festivities through over 30 years of stays in India, while Jungjin Lee expresses the nature of Jeju Island, Korea, in ink-like tones. Farah Al Qasimi lightly portrays globalization and consumer society set against Dubai's giant shopping mall, "Dragon Mart." Alec Soth reconfigures 32 pages of unpublished work documenting a seven-day journey with a woman with whom he couldn't communicate well in Hokkaido, Japan. Nigel Shafran calmly captures the mundane daily life of Hong Kong and Shenzhen, and Xiaopeng Yuan questions modernity with humorous stagings that re-enact male images in Asian society. Furthermore, Sarker Protick from Bangladesh records the changing Bengal region, caught between development and pain, over a long period, and Paris-based Ryu Ika layers fantastical imagery surrounding memories of a mother and child, set in Inner Mongolia. Ece Gökalp from Turkey researches the Latmos Mountains, transformed by mining, questioning the forgotten relationship between nature and civilization. Yukihito Kawano, a photographer from Kanazawa, photographs the daily life of his bookstore and gallery "IACK" to conclude this issue. This magazine is edited and published by Takumi Ueoka, with art direction and design by Menghan Li, and is published once a year in Paris.
