A collection of works by French artist Henri Frachon, based in Paris, and photographer and visual artist Antoine Lecharny. This book was published later, accompanying an exhibition held at the Palais de Tokyo, a contemporary art museum in Paris, from November 25 to December 5, 2021, curated by Gaël Charbau, a curator based in France. They have developed a practice that places observation and conceptualization at the center of their methodology, without objectifying their use. They outline "abstract design," focusing their interest on the essence of form. What shape does a hole take? What about a hole within a hole? What determines its shape? The surrounding material? Or the internal void? What do a crater and a hole made by flow drilling have in common? They work with materials such as stone, metal, fabric, wood, and glass, crossing diverse skills such as stonemasonry, metal spinning, embroidery, woodworking, and glassblowing. They draw, model, scale, experiment, fail, and start over until the subject is exhausted. Their work is composed of four fundamental themes, each presented as a single line: "the Hole," "the Triangle," "Jonc doucine" (the name of their research theme, referring to the "transition of form" that occurs between the bead-like curve of a jonc and the S-shaped molding of a doucine), and "the Dissonance." The "Abstract Design Manifesto" displayed on the wall illuminates the raison d'être of this practice and presents its four rules. This radical and experimental stance could be compared to fundamental research. This book is the duo's first presentation at this museum as recipients of the Audi Talents Awards and should be experienced like a journey, while paying close attention to the details hidden everywhere in our daily lives. ―Gaël Charbau Book title: DISEGNO ASTRATTO by Henri Frachon.
