Book: PIERRE GUARICHE by Pierre Guariche
Pierre Guariche (1926-1995) was a leading interior architect, furniture, and lighting designer in post-war France. He produced a prolific body of work during France's period of economic prosperity and rapid growth, the so-called "Glorious Thirty" years (1945-1975). He quickly adopted the industrial materials and manufacturing techniques that emerged in the 1950s and is known for designing excellent lighting fixtures and simple, elegant furniture that could be mass-produced. He collaborated with innovative companies such as Airborne, Steiner, and Pierre Disderot. He co-founded a design collective (Atelier de Recherche Plastique - ARP). He was also the artistic director of the Belgian furniture company Meurop. Preceding Charlotte Perriand in Les Arcs and Marcel Breuer in Flaine, he worked with architect Michel Bezançon on the construction of La Plagne, France's first integrated winter sports resort. This book utilizes previously unpublished archives to retrace the rich trajectory of this extraordinary creator, highlighting the modernity and timeless elegance of over 200 interior architecture and design projects, almost as many pieces of furniture, and numerous outstanding lighting fixtures (reissued today by Sammode). The text is in English and French.
