Book: Kim Boske
This book introduces works she created during her continuous visits to Kamiyama Town, a mountain community in Tokushima Prefecture, over seven years starting in 2018, participating in the Kamiyama Artist in Residence (KAIR) program.
The works reflect a process-based approach to creation, building a relationship with the land over time. Through collaborations with local artisans skilled in natural indigo dyeing and handmade washi paper, the natural environment is not only a subject but also the very material of the artwork.
Here, nature is not a metaphor or a symbol; it directly and actively participates in the work. Through time, pigments, and fibers, the landscape itself permeates and is inscribed within the artwork.
At the core of this project is the structure of "layering." Instead of presenting the landscape as a fixed whole, it is made to emerge as fragments, transparent layers, and rhythms. This approach is inspired by Deleuze and Guattari's rhizomatic thinking (a structure where elements connect non-linearly, branch out, and intersect).
