Yohei Nakazato has an unusual background, having majored in industrial design at a UK university, worked for a general company, and then taught himself how to make lacquerware since 2012. He handles all processes himself, from wood preparation to undercoating and lacquering. He uses precious, domestically produced lacquer from Nagano for the finishing coats, which gives the pieces an elegant sheen and a smooth feel in the mouth. His lacquerware is beautiful, balancing exquisite designs with the marks of his hand carving. He is currently based in Aoki Village, Nagano Prefecture.
